Herself in the Wild: Aspen
Come along with us as we explore this mountain town in all its summertime glory.
Where to Stay: Mollie
Mollie Aspen was a great base from which to explore the town and surrounding hikes. It was only a 5 minute walk from main restaurants, and felt peacefully tucked away behind a park. The decor was modern and minimal, yet cozy and comfortable. The beds were super comfortable and the toiletries smelled so good. Turndown service left a delicious cookie every night, and I miss eating the cookies in bed with a warm cup of tea.
Must Do: Ride the Gondola
I love hiking, so the gondola was not at the top of my list, since I prefer to walk up mountains instead of ride up them, but the Gondola ride was the perfect way to get a spectacular view and give your sore muscles a little rest. The ride takes about 20 minutes, and you have a great view the entire way. At the top are more spectacular views and a restaurant. You can hike the trails around the top, but in my opinion, there are better trails for hiking.
If you are afraid of heights, this might not be your favorite activity, since you climb high above the treetops, but it is definitely worth the views.
After your adventurous outing, treat yourself to something sweet from Paradise Bakery. I loved the ice cream, but they also carried all sorts of pastries. The line can get a bit long, but it is worth the wait.
Must See: Hiking American Lake
The hike to American Lake was a long trek uphill, but it was so beautiful starting among the aspen trees, then climbing through the pine forests before coming to a deep blue-green lake at the top of the mountain. Pack tons of water and lots of snacks. I recommend packing a picnic lunch to enjoy at the top, both to spend enough time enjoying the view and also to rest your legs before the return journey down.
After a day of hiking, treat yourself to a delicious dinner. Our favorite meal of the trip was at Bosq. The tasting menu was perfectly coursed and featured locally sourced ingredients. My fiancé's loved it because he doesn't usually eat dessert and he was able to swap in another savory dish in place of dessert.
Favorite Coffee: Felix Coffee Roasters
I might be partial to Felix Coffee in Aspen because the location alone is so pretty, but I promise the coffee itself is also really good. Go for delicious cappuccino and stay for the velvet seating. While your there take a peak at the Jerome Hotel lobby. Its historic charm is part of what makes Aspen so special.
Finally... What (Jewelry) to Wear
Petite Croissant Ring
This ring is bold enough to wear alone, and also stacks beautifully with other rings. When I travel, I hate packing jewelry, so I love pieces that I can stack and stack some more.
Chunky Hoop Earrings
These earrings are the perfect size and so lightweight, you will forget you are wearing them. Whether you are on the road, on a hike or dining out on the town, they go with any outfit.
Rainbow Sapphire Bracelet
This gorgeous piece adds a pop of color and is a must-have on any summer trip.
Saint Christopher Necklace
I always take a St. Christopher charm with me as a good luck talisman while traveling. I also love a good charm necklace.
